Vikrama Simhapuri University (VSU) organised an awareness programme on the Multiple Entry and Multiple Exit System (MEME), a key feature of the National Education Policy (NEP-2020), under the aegis of its Social Work Department and Pradhan Mantri Uchchatar Shiksha Abhiyan (PM-USHA), at its Kakatur campus in SPSR Nellore district on Thursday.
Resource person T. Raveender Reddy gave an explanation on MEME and the Academic Bank of Credits (ABC) system. He said that MEME provides students with academic freedom and skill development. The students will have the opportunity to enter classes, exit midway, and re-enter within seven years, according to their personal circumstances, needs, and interests.
“The MEME allows students to secure the academic credits they have earned,” he said, providing a comprehensive explanation of the MEME implementation procedure, the ABC system, credit migration, and the guidelines that colleges must follow. The principals of affiliated and autonomous colleges attended the meeting.
University Vice-Chancellor Allam Srinivasa Rao and registrar K. Suneetha participated in the programme. Explaining the pace of the Indian economy, the Vice-Chancellor said, “India is currently a $4 trillion GDP. The goal is to grow into a $5 trillion economy by 2027–28.”
“While the first $1 trillion GDP took 60 years, it now takes only seven years for every $1 trillion to increase. It is estimated that it may take only two years to jump from $4 trillion to $5 trillion. The government aims to take the GDP up to $20 trillion by 2047. If this goal is achieved, India will become the second or third largest economy in the world,” he claimed.
Mr. Srinivasa Rao further said, “The responsibility of transforming the nation from a developing country to a fully developed country in the future rests on today’s youth. Since the youth will become future decision-makers and hold key positions, educational institutions must strengthen their role in providing knowledge and skills.”
