The water being released from Karupanadhi dam would nourish crops to be raised on 9,514.70 acres in Vairavankulam, Krishnapuram, Chokkampatti, Kumanthapuram, Boganallur, Kadayanallur, Idaikal and Kilankadu.
The Ramanadhi water will be used for raising paddy on 4,943.51 acres of land at Kadayam, Mela Kadayam, Govindaperi, Alwarkurichi, Vaagaikulam, Pottalpudur, Ayan Pottalpudur, Ravanasamudram and Papankulam.
In all, paddy will be raised on 22,101.36 acres of land in Tenkasi district with the water being released from Adavinainarkovil, Karupanadhi and Ramanadhi dams, Mr. Kamal Kishore said.
“We expect good rainfall during the northeast monsoon… If our expectations are belied, water being released from the dams will be discharged on turn basis to ensure supply of water to all targeted areas to save the crop. Hence, the farmers should use the water judiciously,” the Collector appealed.
Tenkasi MLA S. Palani Nadar was present.
