With the water level now allowed to be maintained up to the full reservoir level (FRL) of 105 feet for November, the release of surplus water from the Bhavanisagar Dam into River Bhavani was stopped on Saturday.

As per flood regulation norms, the permissible storage levels at the dam vary by month — 100 feet during June and July, 102 feet from August to October, and up to 105 feet in November and December. In October, the water level touched 102 feet, and surplus water was released into the river. Since the level can now be maintained at the FRL, the release of surplus water has been stopped.

At 2 p.m. on Saturday, the water level stood at 102.25 feet, with a storage of 30.52 tmc ft against the full capacity of 32.80 tmc ft. The inflow was 5,934 cusecs, while the discharge was 2,000 cusecs into the Lower Bhavani Project canal, 500 cusecs into the Arakkankottai and Thadapalli canals, and 100 cusecs into the river for drinking purposes.
