Tamil Nadu Assembly Speaker M. Appavu handed over welfare assistance worth ₹8.63 crore to 3,543 beneficiaries at a function organised here on Saturday to commemorate the death anniversary of B. R. Ambedkar.

Speaking on the occasion, Mr. Appavu said the houses of Scheduled Castes in villages and town panchayats of the district have been given a facelift at a cost of ₹22.26 crore and ₹6.74 crore has been given to SC students as scholarships. Moreover, ₹1.33 crore had been spent for creating better basic amenities in the hamlets of Scheduled Castes in the district.

District Collector R. Sukumar, Corporation Commissioner Monika Rana, District Revenue Officer M. Durai, Palayamkottai MLA M. Abdul Wahab, Mayor G. Ramakrishnan and Deputy Mayor K. R. Raju were present.

In Thoothukudi, Minister for Social Welfare P. Geetha Jeevan, District Collector K. Elambahavath and chairman of Tamil Nadu Sanitary Workers’ Welfare Board V. Arusamy disbursed welfare measures worth ₹2.24 crore.

Mayor Jegan Periyasamy, Corporation Commissioner C. Priyanka and Additional Collector (Development) R. Aishwarya were present.

Minister for Dairy Development T. Mano Thangaraj and Kanniyakumari District Collector R. Alagumeena handed over assistances worth ₹14.11 crore to 2,218 beneficiaries at a function held in Nagercoil.

Nagercoil Mayor R. Magesh, Corporation Commissioner Nishant Krishna, District Forest Officer Anbu and others were present.

In Tenkasi, District Collector A. K. Kamal Kishore handed over assistances worth ₹8.14 crore to 3,076 beneficiaries in the presence of MP Rani Sreekumar and MLA E. Raja.
