Woman alleges husband took custody of child to force her to withdraw case against him

A 22-year-old woman has lodged a complaint with Thoothukudi South police station alleging that her child was forcefully taken away to pressure her into withdrawing the case registered against her husband.

According to the FIR registered by Thoothukudi South police, M. Dhanasri, who belongs to a Scheduled Caste community, married a man from Madurai, who belongs to the intermediate caste, three years ago.Ā 

She has reportedly faced continuous mental and physical harassment during their marriage, prompting her to return to her maternal home in Thoothukudi. She subsequently filed a complaint in the Chief Ministe’s Cell, alleging casteist abuse and physical and mental harassment.

Based on that, Thoothukudi All Women Police station have registered a case against him under SC/ST Act with Sections 3(1)(r), 3(1)(s), IPC sections 506(2), TN women Harassment Act Section 4 and IT Act Section 67A on October 24.

However, on November 14, Ms. Dhanasri’s husband visited her home in Thoothukudi, used abusive language, and forcefully took away their one-year-old son demanding that she withdraw the case.

Following this, an FIR was registered on November 17 at Thoothukudi south police station under the Sections BNS 296(b), 351 (3), TNPHW Act 4 and SC/ST Act Sections 3(1)(r), 3(1)(s). However, the child had not yet been rescued from him. Ms. Dhanasri had submitted a petition at the weekly grievance redress meeting held at the District Collectorate on Monday.
