A 47-year-old woman from Vinay Nagar Colony in Saidabad was cheated of ₹3,38,200 after a man approached her with a fabricated UK-based marriage proposal. The Cyber Crimes police of Hyderabad booked a case.

Investigators said the woman was contacted by a person identifying himself as Hirad Ahmed, claiming to be a doctor in the United Kingdom. He allegedly gained her trust through WhatsApp calls, messages and video chats before convincing her to open two new bank accounts and obtain two new SIM cards. She was then instructed to send the passbooks and ATM cards to an alleged UK Affairs Office in New Delhi.

Police said the accused and his associates later sent forged visa and marriage-related documents and repeatedly demanded payments for visa fees, late charges, luggage issues, hotel stay, flight problems and supposed medical emergencies. Officers said she transferred the money believing the claims, but after losing contact with him and receiving suspicious calls from multiple numbers, she understood she had been deceived and sought police help.

Cybercrime complaints can be filed through the 1930 helpline or at cybercrime.gov.in. Emergency assistance is available on 8712665171. Officials also encouraged residents to follow the Cyber Crimes Hyderabad digital platforms for regular awareness updates.
