A 72-year-old woman died of burns after her saree caught fire from the stove at her residence in Vilankurichi near Coimbatore on Thursday. The deceased has been identified as S. Soundararani, a resident of AKK Nagar at Vilankurichi.
The police said that the accident occurred when the woman was cooking in the kitchen on Thursday morning. She suffered burns after fire from the LPG stove spread to her saree.
The elderly woman was admitted to a private hospital on Avinashi Road and later shifted to another private hospital on Mettupalayam Road, where she died without responding to treatment on Friday noon.
The Kovilpalayam police registered a case based on a complaint lodged by the woman’s husband.
