A 21-year-old woman died of electrocution after coming into contact with a faulty water heater near Perundurai in Erode district on Monday.
The deceased, identified as N. Madhumitha from Coimbatore, had married Gautham from Perundurai. The couple had been living in Panickampalayam near Perundurai.
According to the police, on Monday morning, Madhumitha had placed an immersion heater in a plastic bucket to heat water in a common bathroom. She is said to have touched the water to check if it had heated up, when she was electrocuted.
Neighbours rushed to her aid and took her to the Government Medical College Hospital in Perundurai, where doctors declared her dead on arrival.
Perundurai police have registered a case and are investigating the incident.
