Woman found dead inside car; police arrest driver; recover lost gold jewels

A 38-year-old woman was found dead under mysterious circumstances in her swanky car at Avudaipoigai near here on Thursday.

Preliminary inquiries revealed that the victim identified as Maheswari, wife of Pandikumar, lived in Marudupandi Nagar in Karaikudi. It is said, her husband worker abroad and they have two girl children.

It is said that the woman learnt to drive her car with the help of one call taxi driver, whose name was given as Sasikumar, 33.

A senior officer, who inspected the scene of crime, said on Friday that the woman may have been forcibly beaten inside the vehicle as there was blood stains due to head injury. Another officer said that the driver, who has been held, could have committed the heinous crime, due to some previous enmity. “We are probing from different angles,” he added.

The woman, who was dealing in real estate buying and selling, had been to see a property in Avudaipoigai. It is said that driver Sasikumar had accompanied her. Going by the sequence, it is likely that after murdering, he may have escaped from the spot.

Some gold jewels worn by the victim were missing. A police officer said that based on the confession, 12 sovereigns were recovered and a few more were identified and would soon be recovered from a private pawn shop.

The body was sent for post-mortem. Kundrakudi police have registered a case and are on the look out for a few more suspects.

Agitation

As the news spread, the relatives of Maheswari staged a protest along the Tiruchi-Rameswaram National Highway. Senior officers arrived and pacified them about the action taken following which they dispersed.

Further investigation is on.
