Woman held while transporting ‘ganja’ thrown from train

A migrant woman was arrested by the Nedumbassery police on Sunday (December 7, 2025) for allegedly carr suspected ganja thrown out of a moving train. Shalini Ballar Singh, 24, a native of Kandhamal in Odisha, was nabbed by a special squad from Neduvannur near the Cochin International Airport after residents alerted the police about suspicious packets being thrown out of a train.

The cops who rushed to the spot found the woman carrying four bundles containing eight kg of suspected ganja in a bag. The Ernakulam Rural police, in a release, said they suspect that the drug peddlers resorted to the new method to evade intensified police checks at railway stations.

The police said they were probing if she was involved in similar offence earlier.
