A woman passenger, N. Nainammal, 43, of Chinnakarpoorampatti, was killed and 11 others, including eight schoolchildren, were injured when a TNSTC bus knocked down an autorickshaw on Thuvarankurichi-Natham highway on Friday.
The police said that the children from Samuthrapatti along with local people were travelling the autorickshaw, driven by Chandran, towards Natham, when the accident occurred at around 7.30 a.m.
The police said that the autorickshaw that was moving towards the left suddenly came back towards the right side and the bus hit it from behind.
In the impact of the accident, the three-wheeler flew in air for some distance before falling down.
All those travelling the auto, including the driver, were injured in the accident and they were rushed to the Government Hospital in Natham.
However, Nainammal succumbed to injuries.
Others injured were identified as Divya Shri, 17, Guhan, 14, Charumathi, 15, Mounika, 16, Hairini Shri, 15, Riyaraj, 13, Boomika, 16, Kokila, 17, and local people Tirupathi, Shahul Hameed.
The Natham police are investigating into the accident.
