A 27-year-old woman was murdered by her house owner and his associates in front of her eight-year-old son at her rented flat in Dundigal on Saturday morning.

The deceased, identified as Swathi, had been living separately from her husband and was reportedly in a relationship with the house owner, Kishan, a local realtor.

According to police, the relationship had soured in recent weeks after Swathi began pressuring Kishan to marry her. Police said Kishan, fearing exposure and personal complications, conspired with his friends Rajesh and Vamshi to kill her.

On Saturday around 6 a.m., the trio went to Swathi’s flat and attacked her with a sharp weapon, slitting her throat while her young son was present in the room, explained Medchal ACP Ch. Shankar Reddy. The incident was reported around 6.30 a.m.

The police said Kishan’s wife also attempted to end her life after finding out about the affair.

Dundigal police, acting on a complaint, tracked down the accused and arrested them on Sunday. All three were produced before a local court and remanded to judicial custody.

The police said preliminary evidence suggests the murder was premeditated, and that the accused had planned the attack in advance. The murder weapon has been seized, and further investigation is under way to establish the sequence of events and motive.
