The Third Additional District Court in Coimbatore on Friday sentenced a woman and her paramour for murdering her three-year-old daughter near Saravanampatti in the city in 2019.
The court awarded the punishment to B. Rubhini, 29, of Velliangadu, and her lover R. Sargunam alias Tamil, 30, of Ganapathy.
The duo was arrested by the Saravanampatti police for murdering Rubini’s daughter Devisree and abandoning the body at Karattumedu in May 2019. Rubhini had been living separately from her husband. Sargunam and Rubhini murdered Devisree as they did not want the child to become a hindrance to their affair, according to the police.
Over 55 sovereigns stolen from 13 TNHB flats
Unidentified persons broke open 13 flats at the Tamil Nadu Housing Board (TNHB) complex at Kavundampalayam in the city and decamped with 56 sovereigns of jewellery and a total of ₹3 lakh on Friday. The burglars targeted three flats in block A and 10 flats in block C-3 on Friday afternoon. Senior police officers, including City Police Commissioner A. Saravana Sundar, visited the spot. The police have launched an investigation.
Accused jumps from court building
An accused in a drug peddling case, who was produced before a court in the combined court complex, jumped from the second floor of a building and suffered injuries on Friday. The police said that the injured, who has a case against him at the Saibaba Colony Police Station, was admitted to Coimbatore Medical College Hospital.
