The General Education department has issued an order permitting a Thrissur resident who has muscular dystrophy to appear for the Class X equivalency examinations at home.

Minister for General Education V. Sivankutty said the permission had been given considering the case of 32-year-old Aneesha Ashraf of Thalikulam in Thrissur as a special one.

Aneesha was eight when the disease struck. By 11, she could not walk and had to abandon her studies. At present, even sitting in a chair is difficult for Aneesha. In 2023, the Kerala State Literacy Mission Authority allowed Aneesh to appear for the Class VII equivalency examination at home. She cleared the examinations.

Aneesha then submitted an application to appear for the Class X equivalency examinations at home. The government examined the application on the basis of a report of the Thrissur District Social Justice Officer and recommendation of the State Commissioner for Persons with Disabilities and gave her the permission.

A room in Aneesha’s house will be arranged like a school exam hall. Only Aneesha and an invigilator will be present in the room. The Pareeksha Bhavan Secretary will make arrangements for the conduct of the examination.
