Appealing to Collector R. Sukumar to allot space for creating an ‘auto stand’ near Vaeinthaankulam new bus stand, a group of women auto drivers submitted a petition on Monday.
In their petition, the women auto drivers, led by M. Jayashree, said their association with 17 members could not park their vehicles near Vaeinthaankulam new bus stand as they were not members of the existing ‘auto stand’ near the bus terminus. The women auto drivers, who could not continue their education due to poverty and, hence, could not get good jobs, were driving the vehicle to feed their children and ensure good education for them.
“Since all of us are breadwinners of our families, the Collector may be kind enough to allot a space for women auto drivers to park our vehicles near the Vaeinthaankulam new bus stand to ensure best services to the travelling public,” Ms. Jayashree said.
On behalf of Social Democratic Party of India, a petition was submitted against the move to construct additional classroom buildings on the playground of Burkitmanagar Government Higher Secondary School. Even as the existing dilapidated classroom buildings could be razed down for constructing the new building at the same place, the headmaster of the school and a few others were taking steps for constructing the additional classroom buildings on the playground.
Since this step would seriously affect the rural students’ skill in sports, the Collector should stop this attempt and ensure the construction of the additional classroom building on the placec where age-old crumbling classroom buildings were standing now, they said.
The SDPI cadres also submitted a petition seeking the reconstruction of the parapet wall along the Palayam Channel at ward 46 of Tirunelveli Corporation and the re-laying of the roads badly damaged in the underground drainage project.
On behalf of the residents of Koththankulam and Indra Colony under ward 10 of Gopalasamudram town panchayat, the Tamil Nadu Devendrakula Velaalar Uravinmurai submitted a petition seeking immediate action to stop the dumping of garbage near these two residential areas. Since the dumping and burning of waste in these two areas were causing ailments, the Collector should intervene to stop this practice and conduct special medical camp for the benefit of the residents of these two colonies, the petitioners said.
