The Azad Foundation honoured working women for defying gender norms by choosing careers in the transportation and logistics sectors at the organisation’s annual alumni meet in Chennai on Wednesday. Seven women were awarded at the event attended by more than 90 alumni members. The chief guest, Thiru.Vi.Ka. Nagar constituency MLA P. Sivakumar, alias Thayagamkavi, said the foundation had been training more than 300 women every year since 2020, and more than 100 of them had been employed as delivery partners and drivers in the private sector. He also listed the steps taken by the State government, such as free bus travel for women on government-run ordinary buses. Azad Foundation’s Chief Functionary Dolon Ganguly and State Lead Malini spoke at the event.
