Legislative Assembly Speaker U.T. Khader on Wednesday exhorted the younger generation to work for bettering the country and society by properly understanding the Constitution.

They should develop a personality to create history by understanding history, as told by B.R. Ambedkar, he said, after inaugurating the Constitution Day celebrations here. Stating that the works of Mahatma Gandhi and Ambedkar have been the guiding lights for everyone, Mr. Khader urged the youth to inculcate leadership qualities by following them.

If a common man could freely walk from Kanniyakumari to Kashmir, it was because of the Constitution framed by Ambedkar. As citizens of India, one should abide by the Constitution, he said. Gokarnanatha PU College principal Raghuraj Kadri delivered a special talk on the Constitution.

Karnataka Tulu Sahitya Academy president Taranath Gatti Kapikad, zilla panchayat CEO Narvade Vinayak Karbari, Additional DC K Raju, Mangaluru Assistant Commissioner Meenakshi Arya, and others were present.

Inaugurating the celebrations at Udupi, Yashpal Suvarna, MLA, said everyone should understand the basic values of the Constitution that was adopted the same day in 1949. Ambedkar had envisioned creating an equal India even before independence, he said, adding the Constitution thus enshrined his wishes.

Mr. Suvarna said the Constitution is one of the most beautiful documents in the world where an ordinary citizen could become the ruler. It was essential for everyone to adopt constitutional values in life.

Zilla panchayat CEO Prateek Gadyal, Additional Deputy Commissioner Abid Gadyal and others were present.

Meanwhile, various government organisations, Central as well as State, including Konkan Railway Corporation Ltd., Mangalore Refinery and Petrochemicals Ltd., Mangalore Electricity Supply Company Ltd., New Mangalore Port Authority, and others celebrated the Constitution Day.
