Work on new campus for Rani Channamma University nearing completion

As many as 38,485 students received their graduate and post-graduate degree certificates during the convocation of the Rani Channamma University in Belagavi on Tuesday.

They include 39 gold medal winners, 125 rank holders, 36,642 graduate and 1,843 post-graduate students and 28 doctorates.

Governor Thawar Chand Gehlot presented the gold medals and certificates to the students who passed out of the university at an event organised at the Suvarna Soudha.

The dignitaries presented Doctor of Letter (honoris casa) degrees to Gandhian activist Shivaji Kagnikar, industrialist and panel member of the national commission for minorities Vinod Doddanavar and police officer Basavaraj Yeligar who has translated some Vachanas of Basavanna into English.

The former Chairman of ISRO A.S. Kiran Kumar, Vice-Chancellor C.M. Thyagaraja, Registrar Santosh Kamagouda, Registrar (Evaluation) D.N. Patil, Finance Officer M.A. Sapna, heads of chairs, schools, departments, faculty members, students, parents and others were present.

The Vice-Chancellor, who read the annual report, said that the construction of the new campus of the university is nearing completion on 126 acres of land near Hire Bagewadi village.

The university has 361 constituent or affiliated colleges with 1.4 lakh students in Belagavi and Vijayapura districts. The university offers degree, post-graduate, post-graduate diploma and doctorate courses.

It has four research chairs, he added.
