The written examination for the recruitment of Grade II constables, warders and firemen was held in the four southern districts on Sunday.

The candidates, who were allowed to enter the examination centres between 8 a.m. and 9.30 a.m., were screened completely as carrying any electronic gadgets into the exam hall had been banned.

In Tirunelveli City, the written examination was conducted at six centres between 10 a.m. and 12.40 p.m. Of the 4,379 applicants, 3,969 candidates appeared for the examination. Each centre had been under the supervision of an office in the rank of Assistant Commissioner of Police.

Commissioner of Police, Tirunelveli City, Santosh Hadimani visited all the exam centres multiple times.

In Tirunelveli district, the written examination was held at Pushpalata Vidya Mandir Senior Secondary School, Thiyagaraja Nagar and PSN College of Engineering and Technology, Mela Thidiyoor for the male candidates and the female candidates took the examination at Rani Anna Government College for Women, Pettai.

Of the 4,905 applicants, 4,214 candidates including 3,905 men, 1,118 women and one other candidates took the examination.

Inspector General of Police, K.S. Narenthiran Nayar, who had been in-charge of the examinations held in Tirunelveli district, visited the examination centres along with Superintendent of Police N. Silambarasan.

In Thoothukudi, the written examination was held at BMC Matriculation Higher Secondary School, Grace Engineering College, St. Thomas Matriculation Higher Secondary School and Kamaraj College, where the male candidates took the examination while the female candidates wrote the examination at St. Mary’s College and Subbiah Vidhyalayam Girls’ Higher Secondary School.

Of the 7,556 applicants, 6,679 candidates including 5,070 men and 1,609 women appeared for the examination.

Superintendent of Police Albert John visited some of the examination centres.

In Tenkasi district, 6,916 candidates including 5,171 men and 1,745 women appeared for the examination held at 8 centres while 7,911 persons had applied.

Accompanied by Superintendent of Police S. Aravind, Inspector General of Police Santhosh Kumar, who has been in-charge of the district for conducting the written examination visited a few examination centres.

Of the 5,394 persons applied for the written examination 4,553 candidates including 3,623 men 929 women and 1 dother candidates appeared for the examination in Kanniyakumari district.

Inspector General of Police, South Zone, Prem Anand Sinha, who had camped in the district for monitoring the conduct of examination, and Superintendent Police R. Stalin visited the examination centres.
