Senior TDP leader and former Finance Minister Yanamala Ramakrishnudu has said that providing reservation to the Backward Classes (BCs) in the local bodies commensurate with their population is a big challenge for the governments because of the 50% cap imposed by the Supreme Court.

This roadblock could be overcome by making the required amendment the Constitution, he said in a release. Another way to achieve it was to file petitions by the States in the apex court seeking review of its order, he added.

Mr. Ramakrishnudu expressed the opinion that the Supreme Court and the State governments should do justice to the BCs by providing them adequate representation in politics and other areas as had been  contemplated in the Constitution and give validity to the promises made by the political parties at the time of elections.
