YMCA sponsors The Hindu In School for 65 govt. schools in city

Students of 65 government schools in Chennai will now have access the copies of The Hindu In School.

The YMCA, as part of its Hi-Y initiative to foster leadership skills and all-round development of students, has sponsored copies for students of select schools in the city.

At an event earlier this week, students of Jaigopal Garodia Government Girls’ Higher Secondary School in Choolaimedu received their first copies of The Hindu In School from officials of the Education Department and the YMCA.

Speaking on the importance of cultivating the habit of reading, District Education Officer E. Murugan explained to students how reading The Hindu In School would improve language proficiency and critical thinking.

B. Ravikumar David, YMCA treasurer, elaborated on the various facilities and programmes offered by the YMCA for youth.

A team from The Hindu In School highlighted the features of the campus newspaper, such as explainers, interactive exercises, and vocabulary-building activities.

Asir Pandiyan, general secretary, YMCA Madras, and K. Shanthakumari, Headmistress, Jaigopal Garodia Government Girls’ Higher Secondary School, were also present in the event.
