The Valasaravakkam Police has arrested a 27-year-old youth for snatching a mobile phone from another youth after pretending to give a lift on his two-wheeler.
According to the police, Arumugam, 21, of Viluppuram district, who works and stays at a shop in Koyambedu flower market, complained that he was waiting at the Virugambakkam Aavichi School bus stop to go to Koyambedu when two men on a two-wheeler approached him.
The men told Arumugam they were also going to Koyambedu and offered him a lift. They took him onto their two-wheeler, rode to a deserted spot near Arcot Road close to Muthumari Amman temple, stopped the vehicle and ordered him to get down. They then assaulted him, snatched his mobile phone and fled on the two-wheeler.
Following a complaint, the Valasaravakkam Police officers arrested the accused Vijay Prasad, 27, of Padiyanallur. The phone and the two-wheeler used in the crime were seized. Police are searching for the other suspect.
