The Kollam Excise Enforcement and Anti-Narcotics Special Squad, led by Circle Inspector Shiju S.S. on Saturday arrested Akash, a 25-year-old resident of Neduvelil House, Karunagapally, with 25 grams of MDMA. The arrest was made during an inspection conducted in the Shasthamkotta railway station area, and an NDPS case has been registered. According to officials, the accused is part of a gang that smuggles large quantities of narcotic drugs into Kerala from Bengaluru. The MDMA seized from the accused was of a commercial quantity.
Akash, who was previously implicated in a drug case, was arrested again with a large quantity of MDMA while the trial for the existing case is still ongoing in court. This is the second commercial NDPS case taken by the Kollam special squad in a week. In connection with the local body elections, the Excise department has launched a special drive taking strict actions against the illegal use and trade of alcohol and narcotic drugs.
