A group of Youth Congress activists from Udupi have filed a complaint against journalist Vasant Giliyar, accusing him of making comments on social media that could disturb communal peace.

They alleged that Mr. Giliyar has posted online that peace will be disturbed in the coastal region if the government buckles under pressure and arrests RSS leader Kalladka Prabhakar Bhat. The activists further claimed that the journalist’s post was to provoke right-wing activists to disturb peace in the region. They demanded registration of a case for offences punishable under Sections 353, 152, and 302 of Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita.

Udupi Superintendent of Police Hariram Shankar said the complaint has been registered as a non-cognizable case. The necessary security proceedings will be initiated against Mr. Giliyar, the officer said.
