The Neelankarai police have arrested a 25-year-old man on charges of assaulting a woman security guard following an argument.

According to the police, a 50-year-old woman from Kallakurichi district, employed as a security guard at an under-construction building in Pandian Nagar, Vettuvankeni, was allegedly harassed by Mustaqim Ahmed, from Murshidabad district, West Bengal, who was employed at a site nearby. A few days ago, while the woman was on duty, Ahmed, who was intoxicated, approached her and picked up a quarrel with her. The woman reported the incident to his site supervisor, who reprimanded him.

Early Monday morning, while she was working, Ahmed reportedly returned, pushed her to the ground, hit her on the head with a stone, and threatened to kill her before fleeing the spot. The woman, who sustained bleeding injuries, was admitted to Government Royapettah Hospital for treatment.

Based on her complaint, J-8 Neelankarai police registered a case under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS Act) and the Tamil Nadu Prohibition of Harassment of Women Act (TNPHW Act) and launched an investigation.

The police arrested Ahmed, and he was remanded in judicial custody.
