Former Minister Gudivada Amarnath has alleged that a conspiracy is underway to regularise 54.79 acres of government land, worth ₹ 5,000 crore, in favour of a noted educational institution, linked to Visakhapatnam Member of Parliament, M. Sribharat.
He alleged that the authorities are attempting to include the matter as an agenda in the Greater Visakhapatnam Municipal Corporation (GVMC) council meeting, scheduled on January 30, with plans to pass a resolution and forward it to the government for regularisation of the land.
The members of the YSRCP on Tuesday including its Uttarandhra regional coordinator Kurasala Kannababu, MLC Botcha Satyanarayana, corporators and other leaders held a meeting, where they discussed about the issue.
Mr. Amarnath asserted that the YSRCP is strongly opposing the move and under no circumstances should the 54 acres be handed over to private individuals. He also alleged that GITAM had already managed to get acres of government land regularised in the past and described the attempt to regularise another 54 acres as unethical.
The members also announced that they would be protesting against the agenda in the council meeting.
