YSR Congress Party (YSRCP) leaders and cadres took out a huge rally in Tirupati on Wednesday to protest against the State government’s move to get the government medical colleges developed under Public-Private Partnership (PPP) mode.

Calling it ‘outright privatisation’, the cadres led by former Deputy Mayor and constituency in-charge Bhumana Abhinay Reddy participated in large numbers in the rally. Many wore turbans, shawls and even apparels in blue, white and green, representing the colours of the party.

Tirupati Mayor B.R. Sireesha Yadav, former MLC Yandapalli Srinivasulu Reddy took part in the rally that started from Korlagunta junction and ended at the RDO’s office, where the leaders submitted a representation to an official.

Mr. Abhinay Reddy called it an overt attempt to deprive the autonomy of the colleges. Calling it a ‘treacherous act’, the leaders wondered how the poor and the marginalised sections could get free treatment if the private enterprises were involved in the management of government hospitals.

Similar rallies were conducted across the Tirupati Parliamentary constituency at Srikalahasti, Satyavedu, Sullurpeta, Venkatagiri, Gudur and Sarvepalli towns.
