The YSR Congress Party (YSRCP) has modified the schedule of its State-wide one-crore signature drive opposing “privatisation” of government medical colleges in Andhra Pradesh.
Addressing a teleconference with key party functionaries on Sunday, YSRCP State general secretary Sajjala Ramakrishna Reddy said the revision was necessitated due to the President’s visit to the State on December 16, which resulted in rescheduling of party chief Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy’s appointment with Governor S. Abdul Nazeer.
“Mr. Jagan will now meet the Governor on December 17 to submit the one crore signatures collected from citizens opposing the government’s decision to hand over 10 newly established medical colleges to private managements,” he said.
While constituency-level rallies would be taken out as per schedule on December 10, the district-level demonstrations were rescheduled to December 15, he added.
Mr. Ramakrishna Reddy claimed that the drive received overwhelming public participation, reflecting widespread concern about losing access to medical education.
