The Coimbatore Corporation has requested ₹113 crore from the State Government for road works in the city, Corporation Commissioner M. Sivaguru Prabakaran said on Wednesday.

The proposed works include road re-laying, new paving, and construction of cement roads. Out of a total estimate of ₹217 crore for city-wide road projects, ₹113 crore has been prioritised. The Commissioner added that the proposal is under appraisal and is expected to receive sanction.

On parking constraints at Semmozhi Poonga, he noted that a nearby half-acre plot has been identified for possible use. Earlier plans for a multi-level car park at the park were abandoned after the tender process failed; the contractor had sought ₹77 crore, while only ₹38 crore was sanctioned. Currently, there are no plans for an MLCP, and traffic management measures, including one-way entry and exit, will be coordinated with the police.

He further stated that indoor gaming facilities, including virtual reality setups, are scheduled to be operational by February 2026. Regarding the two proposed swimming pools at VOC Park, one will be a public pool funded with ₹1.5 crore from MP Kamal Haasan’s fund, while the international-standard sports pool, estimated at ₹9 crore, is planned with corporate social responsibility funds.
