Chennur in Mancherial district is set for a major infrastructure upgrade ahead of the 2027 Godavari Pushkaralu, with development works worth ₹70 crore being taken up, Mines and Geology Minister G. Vivek Venkataswamy said on Tuesday.
He added that around one lakh devotees are expected to visit the town during the event.
The Minister was speaking after laying the foundation stone for a Pushkar Ghat in Chennur on Tuesday.
He said ghats, roads and basic amenities were being developed to ensure that devotees face no inconvenience. Modern bathing ghats would be constructed at a cost of ₹8 crore.
The State government had allocated ₹1,000 crore for the Godavari Pushkaralu celebrations across the State in 2027.
“While funds under the Tier-1 category were allocated to major pilgrimage centres such as Kaleshwaram and Dharmapuri, I requested Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy to accord special priority to Chennur for the 2027 Godavari Pushkaralu. Consequently, about ₹70 crore has been sanctioned for the development of Chennur,” the Minister said. The works include development of major roads, roads leading to the Pushkar Ghat and central lighting.
The Minister assured small traders facing hardships due to road widening works of government support. DMFT funds of ₹1.2 crore would be used to construct 20 shops.
Another ₹17 crore has been sanctioned to develop the Shiva temple in Chennur, while plans are under way to develop the crocodile park as a tourist attraction.
Besides the Pushkaralu-related works, development projects worth ₹30 crore are also being taken up under the AMRUT scheme.
