A total of 1.89 lakh voters have been removed from the voter list of Virudhunagar district under the Special Intensive Revision process when the draft electoral roll was published on Friday.
The seven assembly constituencies in the district had 14,36,521 voters — 7,00,264 male, 7,36,030 women and 227 third gender voters.
After releasing the draft roll, Virudhunagar district Election Officer and Collector N. O. Sukhaputra, said the hard and soft copies of the draft electoral roll have been given to the representatives of recognised political parties.
Among the 1,89,964 voters whose names have been removed from the roll are that of 73,279 dead voters, 10,722 untraceable or absentees and 95,609 permanently shifted voters.
A total of 10,135 names of voters who had double entries were removed from the list, he said.
For the next one month, claims and objections raised over the inclusion and exclusion of names in the draft electoral roll would be taken up.
Mr. Sukhaputra said that those residents who had given incompletely filled-in enumeration forms would be served notice and enquiry would be conducted to include their names.
During this period, residents can give Form 6 for inclusion of names, Form 7 for removal of names and Form 8 for change in address.
“We are taking all efforts to not leave any of the eligible voters from the voter list,” the Collector said.
He appealed to the people to check the draft electoral roll and anyone who finds his name missing should contact the BLO and give fresh applications for inclusion of name.
As on October 27, 2025, Virudhunagar district had 1,901 polling booths. Now, the number has been increased to 1,999 as per the guidelines of Election Commission.
People can go through the draft voter list which would be available with the BLO, and the office of Electoral Registration Officer and Assistant Electoral Registration Officer.
Virudhunagar district had 16,26,485 voters before the SIR process.
