Minister for Municipal Administration and Urban Development Ponguru Narayana and other officials pay floral tributes to the statue of former Chief Minister N.T. Rama Rao at Narthaki Centre in Nellore on Saturday.

As part of city beautification measures, 15 traffic junctions will be developed and fountains will be installed at a cost of ₹5.26 crore in Nellore. Municipal Administration and Urban Development (MA&UD) Minister Ponguru Narayana laid the foundation stone for these works here on Saturday.
He also paid tributes to eminent personalities by garlanding their statues at these junctions. A statue of former Chief Minister N.T. Rama Rao was installed at Narthaki Centre, and works have begun on the statues of B.R. Ambedkar at VRC, Mahatma Gandhi on Trunk Road, A.C. Subba Reddy at AC Centre, Swamy Vivekananda at Azad Centre, Puchalapalli Sundaraiah at Kanakamahal Centre, Zakir Hussain at Venkateswarapuram, and Indira Gandhi in Nawabpet respectively.
Mr. Narayana stated that the work on fountains at other 14 junctions, where foundation stones were laid, would be completed soon. He mentioned that Arya Vysya community had requested the relocation of Potti Sriramulu statue at Atmakur bus stand centre, and added that if a consensus is reached, the statue would be moved.
He further announced that preparations have been finalised to modernise 17 government schools in the city. Work is currently under way at eight schools, while three have already been developed to international standards and inaugurated. All arrangements have been set to lay foundation stones for another three schools.
Speaking about the development works across the State, Mr. Naryana said, “The Chief Minister has allocated ₹50,000 crore for the development of 123 municipalities, and projects worth ₹23,000 crore have already commenced. We are carrying out more works beyond the poll promises. Measures are being taken to provide a tap connection to every household by December.”
