19 DPCs to be opened to buy paddy from farmers in Virudhunagar district

A total of 19 direct paddy purchase centres (DPCs) would be opened across Virudhunagar district.

Tamil Nadu Civil Supplies Corporation (TNCSC) has already opened 11 (DPCs) at Watrap, Kansapuram, Mushtakurchi, Ramasamiyapuram, Thambipatti, Devadanam, Seithur, Mettupatti, Sundarapandiyam, Mudukkankulam, and Sennilaikudi, said Virudhunagar Collector N. O. Sukhaputra in a statement.

Besides, eight more DCPs would be opened soon at Melur Duraisamiyapuram, Ayan Kollangondan, Zamin Nallamangalam, Kovilur, Mughavur, Kammappatti, Keela Kanjirankulam and A. Mukkulam, where paddy crops were ready for harvest.

Farmers would be paid ₹2,545 per quintal for fine variety of rice and ₹2,500 per quintal for common variety.

Payments to the farmers would be directly credited to their bank accounts through electronic clearing system (ECS)

The Collector appealed to the farmers to sell their paddy at the TNCSC-run DPCs and get benefited. Besides, he said that the DPCs should buy paddy only from farmers and stringent action would be taken against the officials concerned if they buy paddy from traders.

Farmers can get further details about paddy procurement through TNCSC zonal office over 04562 – 252607, the statement said.
