The Delhi police have registered an FIR after two women students of Hindu College alleged that a group of men harassed them and tried to pull them into a car in Mukherjee Nagar around 9.30 p.m. on Wednesday. The incident occurred two days after the alleged gang rape at Astha Kunj Park.
The car owner has been traced, DCP (North West) Akanksha Yadav said, adding that efforts are under way to nab the accused.
One of the women students subsequently posted a video on Instagram recounting the incident. The woman said she and her friend were walking when a group of men in a white SUV approached them and passed lewd remarks.

When the students objected and asked the men to leave, the men allegedly abused them and continued following them in the vehicle. A few minutes later, when she tried to record the incident on her phone, the men allegedly came closer and tried to pull them into the vehicle.
The men fled when they saw her friend take out her phone to record the incident. The student also alleged that she and her friends initially approached Maurice Nagar police station to report the incident but were told that the spot fell outside its jurisdiction. In the video, the woman claimed that it took them between four and five hours and visits to three police stations, including the one in Maurice Nagar, before the FIR was registered.
The police said a written complaint regarding the incident was received on the intervening night of Wednesday and Thursday. The FIR was registered at the Mukherjee Nagar police station under Sections 78 (stalking), 79 (insulting the modesty) and 3(5) (common intention) of the BNS, and a probe into the incident is on, they added.
The incident comes amid heightened concerns over the safety of women students in Delhi.
On the night of the Mukherjee Nagar incident, a WhatsApp group of Lady Shri Ram College (LSR) students received a message from a student that a man had behaved indecently in front of her near National Park, close to the college’s rear gate.
Response from DU
When reached for comment, DU Proctor Manoj Kumar Singh said the police were looking into the Mukherjee Nagar incident and the university was cooperating with them.
Regarding National Park, he said as of Thursday night, the LSR administration had not received any complaint.
“I took a round of the college today and the police in the area are increasing patrolling. They are working to light up the dark patches around the college. In case of any untoward incident, necessary action will be taken,” said the Proctor.
