Twenty passengers suffered serious injuries after an APSRTC bus overturned and fell into a roadside culvert at Vitalam village of Valmikipuram mandal in Annamayya district on Tuesday.
The accident took place on the Tirupati-Madanapalle highway when a bus from the Madanapalle depot, heading to Tirupati, reportedly suffered a tyre puncture. Police said the bus was travelling at high speed and the driver lost control after the tyre burst, causing the vehicle to overturn and fall into the culvert.
Two ambulances from Madanapalle rushed to the spot and shifted the injured to the government hospital in Valmikipuram, while a few seriously injured were later transferred to the district hospital in Madanapalle. The police registered a case and initiated further investigation.
