A total of 25 candidates filed 33 nominations to contest in all eight Assembly constituencies in the district, as the filing of nominations for the April 23 Assembly election began here on Monday (March 30, 2026).
The number of nominations filed in each constituency was as follows: Erode (East) – six; Erode (West) – four; Modakkurichi – three; Perundurai – six; Bhavani – one; Anthiyur – three; Gobichettipalayam – eight; and Bhavanisagar (Reserved) – two.
Among the candidates, those from Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) and Naam Tamilar Katchi (NTK) filed nominations in all the constituencies in the district. Former Minister K.A. Sengottaiyan of the TVK filed his papers to contest from the Gobichettipalayam Assembly constituency. M.K. Seethalakshmi of the NTK, also contesting from the same constituency, carried the party’s election symbol, the plough, while filing her papers. Likewise, S.M. Arunkumar of the NTK, contesting from the Modakkurichi Assembly constituency, arrived on a horse to file his nomination.
Nominations can be filed on April 2, April 4 and on the final day, April 6, as March 31, April 3 and April 5 are government holidays. Scrutiny of nominations will take place on April 7, while nominations can be withdrawn till 3 p.m. on April 9. Allocation of symbols and the final list of contesting candidates will be announced on the same day. Polling is scheduled for April 23.
