33 police personnel, including five women, to receive gallantry, service medals today

Thirty-three Delhi Police personnel, including five women, will be honoured with gallantry and service medals on Republic Day in recognition of bravery, distinguished service and meritorious work, a senior officer said on Sunday.

The honours include 14 Medals for Gallantry, two President’s Medals for Distinguished Service, and 17 Medals for Meritorious Service, the officer said. Among the gallantry awardees is Additional Commissioner of Police (Special Cell) Pramod Singh Kushwah, who, along with Sub-Inspector (SI) Rajeev Kumar and SI Shibu, confronted a Hizbul Mujahideen terrorist near Mayur Vihar in January 2024.

The officers came under heavy fire and despite Mr. Kushwah sustaining a bullet impact on his protective vest, the team overpowered Javed Ahmad Mattu, a key figure in the killing of five security personnel in Kashmir, after a brief exchange. A pistol, ammunition, and a stolen car with fake number plates were recovered.

SI Udham Singh will be honoured for bravery during a November 2023 operation against sharpshooters linked to Canada-based terrorist and gangster Arshdeep Singh alias Arsh Dalla. Despite coming under direct gunfire, he and his team chased and apprehended the armed suspects, averting a major crime.

Another gallantry medal will be awarded to Inspector Nishant Dahiya, Inspector Manjit (then SI), and SI Amit Bhati for a high-risk interception on Ring Road in October 2023. The officers disarmed the accused and seized a live grenade and a firearm. Inspector Manoj Kumar, SI Anshu Chaudhary, and Head Constable Aleem Ahmad have been recognised for neutralising wanted NIA-listed terrorist Rizwan Ali during an armed encounter near Tughlaqabad Biodiversity Park in August 2024 despite bullets striking their protective gear.

Similarly, Inspector Krishan Kumar of the Anti-Gangs Squad earned the gallantry medal for leading a January 2024 operation against a key arms supplier of the Kala Jathedi gang, the police said.

The President’s Medal for Distinguished Service will be awarded to SI (retired) Gainender Singh Rana and SI Naval Kumari. Mr. Rana rendered over three decades of exemplary service, including forensic contributions in major murder cases, training roles, and public awareness initiatives. Ms. Kumari has been noted for her work in women’s safety, self-defence training, and investigations during deputation with the CBI and Delhi Police’s women’s units, the police said.

On honours list

The Medal for Meritorious Service recipients include senior officers and staff. Joint Commissioner of Police Milind Mahadeo Dumbere has been recognised for leadership across multiple States and key reforms in Delhi. ACP Krishan Kumar, ACP Vimal Chadha, and ACP Nisha Dixit will be honoured for administrative, financial and technology-driven reforms, including digital policing platforms, the police said.

Others include Inspector Rampal Bidhuri, Inspector Suresh Kumar, Inspector Lakhan Lal Meena, Inspector Kuldeep Singh, SI Khiloni Devi, SI Vikram Singh, SI Kala Joshi, SI Rakesh Kumar Verma, SI Krishna Kumar G, ASI Rajbir Singh, ASI Rajesh Kumar Yadav, ASI Chanderjeet Yadav, and ASI Satish Kumar, all cited for dedication, integrity, and contributions across various fields, they added.
