A total of 38,263 women out of the 67,551 new applicants who were found eligible to get monthly assistance under Kalaignar Magalir Urimai Thogai Scheme were handed over debit cards to mark disbursement of ₹1,000 monthly assistance, on Friday.
Revenue Minister K. K. S. S. R. Ramachandran and Finance Minister Thangam Thennarasu distributed the debit cards to new beneficiaries to facilitate them to withdraw the money under the scheme credited to their bank accounts.
The criterion for the beneficiaries to receive the assistance were relaxed by Chief Minister M. K. Stalin and fresh applications were received during the Ungaludan Stalin camps held between July and November.
During the camps held in Virudhunagar district, a total of 67,551 new applications were received, out of which 38,263 persons were found eligible after scrutiny.
A total of 1.49 lakh beneficiaries from the district, including 1,11,637 women who got it in the first phase, will get the monthly assistance.
District Collector N. O. Sugaputhra, MLAs A. R. R. Srinivasan, S. Thangapandian, A. R. R. Raghuraman, Sivakasi Mayor, I. Sangeetha, District Revenue Officer Ananthi, Special Deputy Collector Kalimuthu, Sivakasi Sub-Collector Mohamed Irfan, were among those who were present.
