The Wadagera police arrested five accused, including four contract killers, for allegedly killing an elderly person in Gonal village in Wadagera taluk of Yadgir District on Friday.
The body of the victim identified as Hampanna Sajjan, 74, was found in the village on March 12.
Police had launched an investigation after registering the case following a complaint lodged by the victim’s son, Reddeppa, alias Narasareddy.
During the course of the investigation, the police found that Hampanna Sajjan had illicit relationships with multiple women.
The police conducted further investigation and found that the victim’s son Narasarrddy paid ₹2.5 lakh to four labourers, who were allegedly hired to work on their cotton field, for killing his father, Superintendent of Police Prutwik Shankar said. The four labourers are natives of Andhra Pradesh, the officer said.
“All five accused had been arrested. They were remanded in judicial custody by the district court. There is a suspicion that the illicit relationship led to murder. However, police are investigating the case from different angles,” Mr. Shankar said.
