The 80th Independence Day was celebrated with enthusiasm in Salem, Namakkal, Dharmapuri and Krishnagiri districts on Saturday (August 15, 2026).
Salem District Collector K. Elambahavath hoisted the national flag at a function held at Mahatma Gandhi Stadium, and accepted the guard of honour. The Collector honoured the family members of freedom fighters and distributed welfare assistance worth ₹1.60 crore to 18 beneficiaries. He also distributed certificates of appreciation to 533 officials and staff, including 133 from the Police Department and 400 from other departments. Prizes were awarded to six doctors for their services and to bank branches based on the loans provided to women’s self-help groups. About 670 students from five schools performed cultural events as part of the celebrations.
Later, the Collector participated in the Grama Sabha meeting held at Vellakalpatti panchayat in Omalur panchayat union and discussed the schemes implemented in the panchayat.
Namakkal District Collector L. Madhubalan hoisted the national flag during the Independence Day celebrations at Namakkal in Tamil Nadu on Saturday.

At the Namakkal Collectorate, the District Collector, L. Madhubalan, hoisted the tricolour flag and distributed welfare assistance worth ₹33.72 lakh to 16 beneficiaries and certificates of appreciation to 298 officials and staff of various government departments, including 60 from the Police Department. As many as 923 students from schools and colleges performed cultural programmes. The Collector participated in the Grama Sabha meeting held at Maranaickenpatti panchayat in Namakkal panchayat union.

In Dharmapuri district, Collector V. Saravanan, after hoisting the national flag at the function held at the district stadium, distributed welfare assistance worth ₹37.75 lakh to 26 beneficiaries. He also gave away certificates of appreciation to 266 staff from government departments for their meritorious service. Around 200 students from four schools performed cultural programmes at the event.

Likewise, in Krishnagiri district, Collector C. Dinesh Kumar, hoisted the national flag at the district stadium and distributed welfare assistance worth ₹2.19 crore to 40 beneficiaries. The Collector also distributed certificates of appreciation to 577 government officials and staff. As many as 1,105 students from five schools performed cultural programmes during the celebrations. He also participated in the Grama Sabha meeting held at Gangaleri panchayat in Krishnagiri taluk.
