An 85-year-old woman was allegedly sexually assaulted by a man at her farm house near Nagalur in Anthiyur police station limits on Saturday night, (August 15).
According to the police, the woman, identified as Palaniammal, was alone in her farm at Perumalpalayam around 8 p.m. when the incident occurred. She had locked her house and was sleeping in a shed adjoining the house when the accused allegedly approached her and attempted to sexually assault her.
The woman raised an alarm, following which the accused covered her mouth and sexually assaulted her before fleeing the spot.
On Sunday morning, she contacted a woman working in a nearby farm, who informed her daughter. The victim was taken by ambulance to the Government Hospital in Anthiyur and later referred to the Government Hospital in Erode for further treatment.
The police identified the accused as Vicky (31), a native of Rishivandiyam in Kallakurichi district, who was working as a sugarcane cutter in a nearby farm. Anthiyur Inspector Shanmugavelu arrested him around 11 a.m. on Sunday and handed him over to the Bhavani All Women Police Station for further inquiry.
