Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy said that the State government would disburse ₹9,000 crore to farmers under the Rythu Bharosa scheme soon after the municipal elections, adding that his government had spent a total of ₹1.10 lakh crore on farmers’ welfare in two years of Praja Palana.

Addressing a public meeting to launch the party’s election campaign, after laying foundation stone for the Young India Integrated School near Miryalaguda town in Nalgonda district on Wednesday, he exuded confidence that he would win all 123 Urban Local Bodies (ULBs) going to polls.

“I hope women, who are the main beneficiaries of government schemes, will ensure the victory of Congress candidates in all the 116 municipalities and seven municipal corporations,” he said.

Continuing his tirade against the main Opposition BRS and former Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao, Mr. Reddy accused the previous government of deliberately neglecting key irrigation projects, including the Srisailam Left Bank Canal (SLBC) project in the erstwhile Nalgonda district.

“We planned to complete the SLBC project within two years of coming to power, but unfortunately eight workers engaged in tunnel works were killed in a roof collapse. While everyone was mourning their deaths, they (KCR, K.T. Rama Rao and T. Harish Rao) celebrated as they were happy that the works had stalled,” Mr. Reddy alleged.

Targeting KCR over the phone-tapping scandal, the Chief Minister demanded a public apology from the former CM, accusing him of illegally intercepting citizens’ calls. “He (KCR) even listened to calls between a husband and wife. Shame on him,” Mr. Reddy said, describing phone tapping as a heinous crime.

The Chief Minister said the State government had spent ₹17,472 crore across municipalities in Telangana, of which ₹2,028 crore was spent on municipalities in Nalgonda district.

“We have spent ₹295 crore in Miryalaguda municipality alone,” he said, promising to take responsibility for the town’s development.

Stressing on the need to vote for the ruling party in the upcoming municipal elections, he said, “We will remain in power for another eight years. We will ensure development in the municipalities. For development to happen, the ruling party must win,” he said.

Ministers Uttam Kumar Reddy, Komatireddy Venkat Reddy, Adluri Laxman Kumar, MP K. Raghuveer Reddy, MLAs and other leaders attended the meeting.
