In a coordinated effort, a special police team from Bihar with the help of jurisdictional Kodigehalli police in Bengaluru arrested two notorious habitual offenders from Bihar, who have a cash reward on their head, and were on the run.
The duo was running an extortion ring in Bihar, being based out of the city, the police said. The case has raised concerns of the city becoming a safe hideout for criminals from elsewhere.
The accused have been identified as Manik Singh, 30, and his father Manoj Singh, 65, both had been absconding for the past five years. The duo was arrested by the Bihar Special Task Force (STF).
According to the police, the father-son duo was accused in more than 40 criminal cases, including over 24 murder cases. Complaints against them had been registered across multiple States, including Bihar, Jharkhand, and West Bengal.
The Bihar police had also announced a reward of ₹3 lakh for information leading to their arrest. Investigations revealed that Manik Singh had been hiding in Bengaluru for the last five years, while for the past two years he was staying along with his father Manoj Singh in the limits of the Kodigehalli police station. During their stay in the city, the accused allegedly made extortion calls to builders and businessmen, demanding money. After trailing the duo for several years, the Bihar STF traced their location in Bengaluru and arrested them successfully.
Meanwhile, the Bengaluru City Police are further investigating to ascertain their local contacts and criminal activities in the city, if any.
