A 70-year-old man was allegedly beaten to death by his son here on Monday (February 9, 2026).
The arrested was identified as C. Kannan (40), a resident of Nadupatti near Deevattipatti.
According to the police, on Sunday night (February 8, 2026), in an inebriated state, Kannan came to his house and quarrelled with his father, Chinnadurai. During the quarrel, he attacked Chinnadurai with a wooden log and went to sleep.
In the attack, Chinnadurai sustained grievous injuries and died. On Monday, as Chinnadurai did not step out of his house, nearby residents went inside and found Chinnadurai dead. On information, the Deevattipatti police came to the spot and sent the body to Salem Government Hospital for post-mortem. The police registered a case, arrested Kannan and he was remanded in prison.
