A squad of the 27 Special Composite Group (SCG) of the National Security Guard (NSG) conducted a high-intensity, three-day counter-terrorism exercise in Auroville.
Supported by the Villupuram district police, the operation involved over 120 commandos utilising next-generation specialised equipment to secure the international community, a press note said.
As part of the drill, a specialised ‘Dark Night’ operation, focusing on tactical manoeuvres in total darkness served as a test for technical precision and the use of cutting-edge hardware that included drones with night operation capability and thermal surveillance cameras.
The operation integrated elite canine units, such as assault dogs for high-risk situations and explosives detection dogs.
The stealth public rescue act featured commandos operating without any artificial lighting and in simulated high-pressure scenarios. The team also executed a full-scale mock drill at the Auroville Foundation office.
Jayanti S. Ravi, Secretary of the Auroville Foundation and Additional Chief Secretary of Gujarat, oversaw the strategic coordination, ensuring seamless collaboration between the elite central unit and local authorities, the press note said.
