Patients have expressed concerns about the frequent malfunctioning of a laser machine at Dermatology Department of the Mahatma Gandhi Memorial Government Hospital in Tiruchi, and have urged the authorities to rectify the situation at the earliest.

“Patients who need treatment for skin ailments say that the laser machines in the Dermatology department are not working; as a result many people who have travelled from far are forced to return without therapy. The authorities should assess the root of the problem and if necessary, should replace the machine,” Thiruvengadam Ranganathan, a social activist, told The Hindu.

The Dermatology department has three laser machines; two of them are used for cosmetic procedures and one is reserved for life-saving treatment.

A senior MGMGH official said: “One of the laser machines used for cosmetic procedures is not functioning and we have raised a work order to get it repaired. We are hopeful of getting the machine back in order within the next week. In the meantime, the other two laser machines are working as usual and there has been no break in service.”
