Minister for Municipal Administration K.N. Nehru on Monday inaugurated a daily market at Woraiyur and various completed civic projects taken up at an outlay of ₹14.41 crore in Tiruchi.
The newly constructed vegetable and meat market complex on Hospital Road in Woraiyur was built at a cost of ₹4.40 crore, with ₹1.40 crore sanctioned under the Capital Grant Fund 2025–26 and ₹3 crore from the Corporation General Fund 2025-26. The facility features 76 vegetable and fruit stalls and nine meat stalls, each measuring 120 sq. ft.
Among the other projects inaugurated were the Corporation’s main office arch built at ₹45.70 lakh and multipurpose office spaces constructed at Kottai Kollai Theru, Alexandria Road, Babu Chetty Road, Alwarthoppu, Puthur High Road, Puthur Eda Theru Junction, and Subramania Nagar at a cost of ₹25 lakh each. A sanitation complex at Keela Panjapur was completed at ₹34.25 lakh under the Corporation’s General Fund.
Under the 15th Health Grant, an additional building for the Urban Primary Health Centre (UPHC) at Bheema Nagar was opened at ₹60 lakh. Sub-health centres attached to UPHCs at Edamalaipatti Pudur, Khajamalai and Pandamangalam were inaugurated, each constructed at ₹30 lakh.
Overhead water tanks with a capacity of five lakh litres each at Kallangadu at ₹1.71 crore and Shanmuga Nagar at ₹1.39 crore, anganwadi at Veduvar Street at ₹29.50 lakh, a ration shop at Sangeethapuram at ₹13.50 lakh, a community toilet at Anthoniyar Kovil Street at ₹15.97 lakh, and a public toilet at Rajiv Gandhi Nagar at ₹31.25 lakh, sanctioned under various funding sources.
The Minister unveiled the name board of a street at Karumandapam, renaming Thirunagar 3rd Main Road in Ward 56 of Zone IV as “Thirunagar Kavignar Nandalala Main Road” in memory of the late Tamil poet, writer, and public speaker Nandalala, as a tribute to his contributions to the literary and cultural circuit in Tiruchi.
Collector V. Saravanan, Mayor M. Anbazhagan, and Corporation Commissioner L. Madhubalan participated.
