The State Lorry Owners Federation-Tamil Nadu (SLOFT) on Friday withdrew the Statewide indefinite strike that was announced earlier.

The federation had announce the strike from February 25 midnight against the hike in charges for getting fitness certificate.

Meanwhile, in a press release on Friday, the SLOFT said that the State Government issued a government order by holding the fee hike for issuing fitness certificates for the next three months. It said the earlier fee of ₹800 only should be collected from lorry owners for issuing fitness certificates. Likewise, the Transport Department Commissioner assured the owners to conduct talks on reducing the fee within these three months.

As paddy harvesting is going on in the delta and a rain alert has been given for the region, considering the welfare of farmers, the indefinite lorry strike announced earlier is postponed, and lorries will operate as usual. “We extend our thanks to the Chief Minister, the Transport Department Minister, officials, and lorry owners of the delta region who were on strike for the past four days,” the SLOFT added.
