Even as the work on the third terminal in Tambaram railway station proceeds at a slow pace, progress at the Chengalpattu railway station is faster, and the station will soon sport a new look. The railway station, being developed under the Union government’s Amrit Bharat Station scheme (ABSS), will have all the necessary passenger amenities – a bigger lounge, air-conditioned waiting area, food court, ample parking space and clean public conveniences.

The Southern Railway, which is executing the redevelopment project at a cost of more than ₹22 crore, has completed more than 90% of the work and is aiming to inaugurate the redeveloped station after the Assembly election ends in May first week.
