The long-pending Visakhapatnam-headquartered South Coast Railway zone is inching closer to reality, with the Ministry of Railways stepping up efforts to finalise manpower and administrative arrangements ahead of its formal launch.
Railway authorities have begun firming up the initial workforce of over 1,300 personnel for the zonal headquarters in Visakhapatnam. A temporary office is already functioning with about 100 staff in a rented building at Siripuram Junction, even as preparations gather pace for the official gazette notification. The recruitment and staff mobilisation process has now moved into an accelerated phase to ensure the zone is operational from day one.
